Nail Polish Review - China Glaze All Aboard Collection (My Picks) - Fall 2014

31 January 2015

Hi Everyone! As you might as have read in yesterday's post, I have changed my nail shape for 2015... or at least for the time being. These were swatched in November and have been sitting in my Drafts folder so I thought I should share them instead of letting them go to waste.

Although these polishes are from the China Glaze Fall 2014 Collection, these colours are still perfect for the last stretch of winter before we transition into neutrals and super sweet pastels!!!

China Glaze All Aboard Collection

Overall Comments: I really loved all 6 polishes I picked from this collection. The formula for each and every single polish was spot on and each presented a unique twist to some classic colours. Even though they are all dark polishes, I really like that they don't look black and that you can identify its colour and uniqueness!

MLIT's 2nd Birthday - Nail Art + NEW Nail Shape + GIVE AWAY

29 January 2015

Yes, you read that right! My Life in Turquoise (MLIT) turns 2 today and that is definitely a reason to celebrate. As the title suggests, I have a nail art look to celebrate the blog's birthday, a fresh new nail shape AND a giveaway at the end of this post! I think it is also good time to relfect on the last 2 years and appreciate all the wonderful things that have happened since I started this blog.

PS. I am going to start referring to my blog as MLIT going forward... hope the acronym catches on!

Reflecting on 2013 + 2014

I don't often share details about my personal life on this blog or spend too much time delving into my feelings. The start of a new year, however, feels like the right time to start! I feel like I accomplished a lot for MLIT these past two years but at the same time, I know I want more. Here's a quick list of all the good things that have happened to MLIT:
  • I successfully completed the 31 Day Challenge for the first time in 2014!
  • 2 of my designs were selected in the Bundle Monster Create Your Own 2014 stamping set!
  • I have swatched and reviewed quite a few nail polishes/collections (some purchased by me, some sent to me for review)
  • Some of my favourite brands chose to share some press samples for me to review!
  • I hosted my very first giveaway
  • I finally learnt the stamping nail art technique
  • I made new friends in the nail art community (Some even created guest posts for MLIT!)
  • My nail art skills and photography have improved so much sinve my first nail art post (if you don't believe me... click here to see how I started)
  • AND best of all, so many of you chose to start following MLIT through various social media

Outlook for 2015

Like I said... I want more! I don't have anything defined but I do know that sharing what I would like to achieve in 2015 will help me stay accountable and achieve the goals I set out for the year. So here's a shortlist of everything I want to achieve in 2015:
  • Review more nail polishes and collections to keep this blog relevant
  • Create regular nail art posts! (I may need to join a challenge to find the inspiration)
  • Improve my photography skills
  • Create a new blog design/layout and update the graphic elements
  • Post a weekly/monthly/seasonal feature or series
  • Maintain my nail health by regularly caring for my nails (too make breaks and chips in 2014)
  • Host more giveaway(s)
  • AND Make more friends and meet other nail art/polish enthusiasts!

Nail Art

What better way to celebrate a nail art blog's birthday than create a celebratory nail art?!

Guest Post by Copycat Claws

6 January 2015

Hi Everyone! While I'm away on vacation, I am super lucky to have several bloggers guest post for me! And to finish my line-up of guest posts is Serene from Copycat Claws. I discovered Serene's blog a few months ago and every since I have had a major crush on her beautiful blog! I am always so excited to discover other Canadian bloggers! She seriously has beautiful nails and pictures and of course she is very talented at all kinds of nail art! I am always so inspired every time I read new posts on her blog. I am thrilled that she has prepared a guest post for my blog so without further ado... here it is!
______________________________________________

Hey there!  For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Serene.  I blog over at Copycat Claws and I was so over the moon excited when Hetal asked me to do a guest post for her while she goes on a well-deserved vacation.  My first ever guest post!  Woohoo!  I absolutely drool over Hetal’s swatches  and her nail art so I hope I don’t disappoint if you’ve come here expecting her.  Since Hetal is going to be off in the warmth of India while leaving her fellow Canadians like me, in the midst of full blown winter, I wanted to do something warm and summer-y to remind the rest of us that winter will eventually give in to spring and all its colors.

I do a lot of stamping over on my blog and I love to play with color so for this I started with a silver holographic base of Color Club Harp On It. Over Harp On It, I randomly applied the colored jellies from the 10.1 Polish Icing collection to create a sparkly rainbow landscape.

I stamped the butterflies from Messy Mansion MM42 using Mundo de Unas Black and topped it off with HK Girl top coat for a glossy finish.

Then, simply because I like the look of mattified holos, I added a coat of OPI Matte Top Coat to matte the final look.

I think the matte finish sort of dulled the final product giving it a more subtle look. I love how using a simple matte top coat can completely change the final result.

So what do you think? Glossy or matte? And is anyone already looking forward to spring as much as me?

Thanks for looking! And thank you again to My Life in Turquoise for allowing to put a little bit of myself into her awesome blog. Hopefully you lovely folks liked what I shared. If you'd like to check me out any time, you can follow any of my social media links to find me.

Glossy or matte?! I don't know about you but I am having a hard time deciding!! I love both the finishes for very different reasons. And yes, I think we are looking forward to Spring since this cold-wintery weather is just so blah! And as I mentioned, don't you just love her nails, skills and photography?! Thank you so much Serene for preparing this amazing guest post for my blog!

Let's show Copycat Claws some love on social media. You can find Serene on Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, Instagram, Bloglovin and Google+. And don't forget to stop by her blog for amazing elegant nail art looks and stunning pictures!

Guest Post by Popping Nails

2 January 2015

Hi Everyone! While I'm away on vacation, I am super lucky to have several bloggers guest post for me! Next up is Charlie from Popping Nails. I recently discovered this gem of a blog with super bright and fun nail art looks! Charlie is very creative in her use of colours and patterns. I am so happy that she agreed to guest post for me today. So let's out some of her bright nail art below.
______________________________________________

Hi everyone, I'm Charlie from Popping Nails, I tend to do brightly coloured nails which is why these are perfect to show you what my stuff is like. I know these are completely out of season but I really wanted to do a psychedelic pattern.

I used a base of white to start with so I wouldn't have to do multiple layers of the colours. I wanted to use O.P.I Don't Talk Bach To Me so I chose this to base all my other colours around. I ended up using Barry M Grapefruit, Guava, American Apparel Neon Green and Models Own Tangerine Queen as my other colours. To finish off I took Sinful Colors Black on Black to outline the lines which really pulled the look together.

I'm obsessed with how these turned out and I love the colour combination as it's something I don't always use but I might try to be more adventurous in the future. Thanks to Hetal for having me do a guest post and I hope you all liked it!
